Mission Accomplished August 20, 2004

My husband made it home from work in time for my first Lupron injection last night. I have to say, it went really well. I didn’t get nervous, and my husband didn’t end up passed out on the floor. Actually, he did a great job. I prepared the syringe, and he stuck me. It really wasn’t bad at all.

Now this IVF seems real. It’s hard to imagine that if all goes well, in a month from now we could have embryos to transfer. Wow. I just can’t even imagine how I’ll feel if we manage to reach that point. Considering the fact that my husband’s sperm haven’t even made the trip to my uterus before, the thought of having our embryos in my body is just mind blowing.

Well, my hubby and I are making the trip over to visit my parents this weekend for my dad’s birthday. My husband’s been really busy at work this week, but we feel it’s important to make the trip. Can’t say the same for my brothers, though. One has a legitimate excuse. He’s moving from New Orleans to Fort Worth this weekend. Although, come to think of it, he will have to drive through the city where my parents live during his trip. My other brother is just flaky when it comes to visiting family. Apparently, he’s just too tired to drive a few hours to visit my dad on his birthday. Whatever. I’m just glad we’ll be able to go. Plus, my mom ordered a cake from the best bakery on earth. I already hear it calling my name. Have a good weekend, everyone.

Hope you all have a wonderful time at your dad’s birthday party! Eat an extra piece of cake for me, okay? I’m sure it’ll be so YUMMY!!!!!!!!

(It IS mindblowing to know that you’ll have EMBRYOS inside you soon. That’s never ever happened to me before, too, and I think I might pass out when it does. That will be sooooooooo cool! Best of luck.)

Congrats on the first big step! That is huge, huge, huge. Not sure if you tried it, but if you find the shots get a bit tougher as you do more of them - try numbing the injection spot with an ice cube first. That always did wonders for me!

This whole process must seem so sureal. I can’t even imagine what it would feel like. All my thoughts and prayers are with you and for a succesful cycle!

Hey Amanda! So glad to hear the first shot went well, and that hubby a) made it back in time to administer it and b) he didn’t pass out!

Happy thoughts are coming your way for this cycle. It’ll get easier!

Hi Amanda..

Just spent a couple days reading your blog. (I know.. pathetic that i have so much time on my hands)

Lupron bites.. but at least the shots are easy and painless. Look out for headaches around day 7 or so.. once they start really supporessing.

I’m originally from Lake Charles/Sulphur.. so when I saw the pictures from July 4th, of course I HAD to comment. LOL I moved to Mass 8 years ago, but visit my parents in Sulphur once a year.

Good luck with your cycle coming up.. you’re now in for the ride of your life!

Thanks, ladies, for all of your comments.

Brenda, that’s funny that you’re from my old neck of the woods. We just went back this weekend for my dad’s bday. We always eat way too well when we go back to visit. I’m sure Massachusetts is about as different as you can get from Louisiana. My mom was actually born in Mass, so she always says I’m half yankee, although my dad would beg to differ.

Very small world, indeed, Brenda. We had boudin from Abe’s for lunch on Saturday, their stuffed pork chops for dinner, and we bought some gumbo and etouffee to bring back with us. Yum.

Good luck with
everything! Here’s hoping there’s a baby in your lives very soon!
I can’t imagine what you’re going through. And I can’t imagine my husband being able to administer a shot to anyone.
Good luck!
