The Never Ending Period August 25, 2004

I’m totally confused. I normally have consistent 28 day cycles, so I know exactly when to expect my period. I knew that these IVF drugs would screw that up, but I didn’t realize how much.

I started taking the birth control pills on August 1st, day 3 of my cycle. About a week and a half into them, I started spotting. The spotting continued throughout the rest of the BCPs. I took the last one on Saturday night. I continued to spot some on Sunday and Monday but had no spotting yesterday. Today I’m spotting again. I have no clue if this is the beginning of my period while on Lupron or what? I hate not knowing what’s going on with my body.

I’m not scheduled to have my baseline ultrasound until next Friday, September 3rd, so I guess it doesn’t matter if I get my period now or in a few days, but it’s driving me crazy.

Oh, and in other news, the chocolate crisis has been averted, at least for the time being. I may have to go back to the store tomorrow, though, because my husband has been great about helping me devour my newly acquired chocolate stash.

Amanda - If I remember correctly, they mention this strange phenomenon in the “couples” book. When they describe a “Sample IVF” cycle for the fictitious Kelly, she remarks that she almost missed her period all together because it was really nothing more than some light spotting.

I doubt that helps you, but just figured I would mention it. Hang in there!

Yeah, Dawn, I remember that from the book, too. I think that just confuses me more. I’m like, is this it? Or should I expect more? I guess I just have to be patient (not one of my best virtues).

Amanda I know exactly what your going through, I know the feeling. I’ve had my period since May 27. and realy heavy. I used to have the IUD, had it for 2yrs with no periods. Dr. said that, that wasn’t normal so I got it removed. When I got the IUD removed a week or two later I started my period non-stop, with a day or two of break in between but still on it. The Dr. gave me Birth control pills, to control or to get it back to normal, but guess what?, nothing, it’s not working, it’s still there along with all the symptoms. I don’t know what’s going on or why or what to do. Does any one out there know or have a clue to why? Help :(

I have no idea what to do! I have the same problem as a lot of you girls, except a million times worse! I have had my period for six months straight, and it’s not just spotting. It’s a constant heavy flow. I’ve had surgeries, tried different forms of birth control, taken pills, nothing is working. I just don’t know what else to do! If anyone knows anything, PLEASE HELP!
