My Cat, the Infertile August 31, 2004

Well, I don’t know if that’s technically correct, but my kitty, like all my cats, has been “fixed.” The thing is that she was meant to be a mom. How do I know this? She has three “babies.” They are little stuffed Furbies that are from McDonald’s happy meals. She adopted these Furbies and now treats them like children. She carries them from room to room in her mouth. She’ll bring them into the living room during the day and back to the bedroom at night. You can always tell when she’s moving her family, because she makes this funny meow when she’s got one of them in her mouth.

I used to think this was so cute. I still do, but more and more, I feel sorry for my kitty. I know what it’s like to want to have kids and not be able to. My cats are my “babies” and her Furbies are hers. Now, before you lock me in the looney bin, I realize that my cat doesn’t mourn her infertility like I do. I still feel badly that she’ll never really get to be a mommy, though. Thank goodness for little stuffed animals.

I weep for your kitty’s lost fertility.

BUT I can’t help but laugh because my furbaby Mojo has adopted two teenie beanies from McDonald’s Happy Meals, too. The husky and the white kitty.. I say “adopted”… more like “alter egos”. She’s a bit schizophrenic with her “Durdens” (named after the character, Tyler Durden, in Fight Club). She does bad things (like tearing up TP) and blames the beanies for it. Hilarious.

But really.. about your baby kitty. :( It’s always sad to have to get them fixed, especially when you KNOW they’d be good mommies.. and when they are so cute they’d have cute babies too. *sigh*

I am NOT making light of your cat’s infertility I promise, but Ive got to say it’s better that what my kitty, growing up, used to do with my stuffed animals. True story: Onyx used to drag out all the stuffed animals, place them in a circle and hump each of them one by one. He too was hampered by forced infertility, but somehow, he seemed pretty darn happy.

If you ever decide to get a second kitty, you’ll have to get a really young one that your kitty can ‘mother’.
My cat on the other hand would be more likely to bite its head off…

I’m so sorry about your kitty. At least she has her own “babies”, and of course she has you!

I am a mess today. . . that made me cry for your kitty. *sigh* I think its time for me to go to the nut house.
