I Guess That Explains It February 18, 2005

The mystery of the shadow lines has been solved. My beta came back at 46, a low positive. Of course this is further than we ever gotten before, but I’m worried. The average beta at 11dp5dt is about 200. According to the IVFer’s HCG Levels in Early Pregnancy Page, a beta in the range of 25-50 at 16 days past ovulation (exactly where I am) results in an ongoing pregnancy at 20 weeks gestation less than 35% of the time.

I know I should stop obsessing over stats. I know I should just be happy to have gotten this far, but it’s hard. I’m wondering how much harder it will be to get a negative after having gotten a positive. I guess the stress and worrying never ends, does it.

I’m going back on Monday for a repeat beta. I’m sure this will be one hell of a long weekend. I guess there’s really nothing I can do at this point, though. I sure won’t be dancing around shouting out the “p-word” at the top of my lungs. No siree. One day at a time, I guess. One fucking day at a time.

Oh Amanda! I have been reading for a while but have never posted before. Anyway, good luck! I have been refreshing your blog all morning to see the results. I hope that this is it!

Amanda, I don’t know anything about what the numbers mean but I am EXTREMELY happy that you have a positive number.

I am so happy for you.

I think you deserve a massage this weekend.

Thinking of you, take care.

Amanda,
According to all the stats I’ve been looking at your 46 at 11dp5dt doesn’t sound that sahbby. In fact with all the stats I’ve been seeing “At 14 DPO, the average HCG level is 48 mIU/ml, with a typical range of 17-119 mIU/ml” (this is from http://www.thedoctorslounge.net/lablounge/lab_tests/obstetrics/pregnancy_test.htm>) and when I looked at your site (one I’ve seen before) you actually are at the average for DPH for day 14! So congratulations those are great numbers. But then again I know what you’re going through at the moment b/c I’m currently in a state of “nothing to see here, please move on” and anxiously awaiting my next beta next week.

so happy for you and your husband and I’ll be crossing my fingers.

Anne, that would be great if I was 14 dpo, but I’m 16. That site lists lower average betas than I’ve seen other places. For 16 dpo it says that the average HCG level is 95 mIU/ml, with a typical range of 33-223 mIU/ml. My number puts me in that range but not by much. Thanks for the info and good luck with your beta next week!

I KNEW IT! That’s great and don’t get hung up on the number, at this point it’s about doubling and a heartbeat – you’ve crossed a major hurdle and I”m so happy for you!! I know just exactly how stressful this is – hang in there.

Hey, hoping Monday brings news that makes you feel more secure.

13. Heather - February 18, 2005

I know it’s very early and there still may be reason for concern, but nonetheless, I am so, so thrilled for you to have finally made it this far! I’ll be thinking DOUBLING thoughts for you all weekend, so that maybe Monday that number will have climbed enough that you can finally jump around and scream the p-word. You’ve certainly waited long enough for that moment, and you so, so deserve it!

I agree with the rest of the posters. My HCG was only 8 at 11DPO and 56 at 14DPO. The pregnancy went on and was very healthy so don’t be down on those numbers, they sounds right on target to me.

Congrats!

15. Suz - February 18, 2005

I’m truly hoping that you get some good news on Monday making that positive even more so. I’m keeping fingers and toes crossed all weekend that this happens for you!

Well hot damn, my friend! I’m so incredibly excited for you–quiet congrats!

And like some of the other comments said, don’t concentrate too much on the number/DPO–it’s all so varied from woman to woman anyway. It’s the doubling, etc., that really cement the deal–and I’m sending such incredibly warm thoughts that yours will go to the moon come Monday!

I’m just so happy for you–and one day at a time sounds just fine to me.

Enjoy your weekend and know that we’re all thinking of you!

Agree with Dee – it’s the doubling that counts.
A day at a time is the way to do it.
Fingers crossed for you and wishing all sorts of good things : )

18. NSR - February 19, 2005

Amanda – it’s positive! That is a good step. I agree with the others, you won’t know much more until the next beta.
I hope you have a nice weekend!

19. Anonymous - February 19, 2005

I had a 14.
Umm, yeah. Pathetic.

But don’t freak yet…it’s not the number… it’s the doubling that’s important.

I’m crossing all crossables for you.

Just went down this road myself. Email me if you want to bitch or vent.
