Stay Away Katrina August 28, 2005

Nothing like a hurricane to take your mind off of an impending ultrasound. As of right now it looks like we’re just expecting tropical storm strength wind and rain here, so we’ll most likely be ok to say put. You never really know what those crazy hurricanes will do, though. It kind of makes me nervous that Katrina hasn’t made it’s major turn to the north yet. The longer it waits, the more chance we have of it affecting our area.

Yesterday I went to the store to stock up on hurricane supplies. It was so freaking insane. I’ve never seen a store more packed than that. I got what I needed, though, so it was worth the craziness.

Katrina looks like a total biatch. I feel so badly for the people to the east of us. I’m so glad that New Orleans and the surrounding areas are now under mandatory evacuation. It’s going to be so freaking bad.

I know it’s selfish, but I really hope that Katrina doesn’t screw with my ultrasound appointment. This has literally been the longest week of my life. I really don’t want to wait any longer than Tuesday to find out what’s going on in there.

I have no clue if we’ll lose power here tomorrow or not. You better believe that I’m glued to the TV right now, though. This is going to be one of the worst hurricanes to hit in a very long time, and it’s pretty darn scary. I guess we’ll know more about the extent of the damage come tomorrow. Until then I guess all we can do is watch and wait.

I’m glad, at least, that you aren’t in New Orleans. I couldn’t remember where in Louisiana you had moved to and was getting worried! As someone who moved to FL right before we got hit with all those hurricanes last year, I can sympathize with hurricane related stress. All I know is we now have enough batteries to last us a lifetime. At any rate, I hope it stays far away from you.

Stay safe! I remember hearing a story on NPR last year about how catastrophic a major hurricane would be to the city of NO and now it looks like it’s going to happen. Scary stuff.

Thinking of you Amanda - stay safe!!

Hoping it doesn’t affect your ultrasound appointment too! And I don’t think it’s selfish to think that. Every time bad things like this happen, I’m reminded of how life goes on and how the little things continue to matter, just when it seems like they shouldn’t. And of course your ultrasound appointment is NOT little, it’s major. Almost there… Stay safe.

I hope the power stays on long enough to have your scan. But mainly I hope that the power stays on long enougth for you to have, see something GOOD and then come back home and tell us about it.

Thinking of you.

You’re not selfish at all. One of the first things that occurred to me when I heard about Katrina was that she could wreak havoc with the careful planning of IVF cycles. I hope you’re able to make your appointment, and I hope even more that you receive some good news.

So scary! Thinking of you and hoping you are safe and sound.

A good friend of mine recently moved to Biloxi from California. She also happens to be an RE and I was thinking just that - all those IVF schedules are going to get so screwed up. Granted, she JUST moved there and probably doesn’t have patients too far into it… but still. I don’t know where you are, exactly, but I hope the worst you have to deal with is some rain on your way to the ultrasound!
