I Hate These Kind of Anniversaries October 18, 2006
One year ago we lost our sweet Dixie to renal failure. I miss her so very much. At random moments Dan or I will say to the other “I miss Dixie.” She was, and continues to be, much loved.
Now we’re watching one of our other kitties, Muffy, deal with the same thing that took our Dixie. Muffy’s renal failure is progressing much more slowly than Dixie’s did. We have time to treat her, and she seems to be doing ok for the time being.
She’s tolerating her subq fluid treatments as well as can be expected. I mean, who can blame her for not really enjoying them, but we can definitely tell that they help her feel better. I have to admit, though, that it is kind of odd to be sharing my sharps container with my cat.
I don’t really talk much about our other kitty, Salvador, because at least for now things are status quo with him. He is loving the fact that we now have a back yard. I take him out every now and then so he can graze a bit. I have no idea why we hired people to cut our lawn when we’ve got Salvador.
So, today is a bittersweet day. I love thinking about Dixie memories, but it’s still hard. Thank goodness we still have our other two. They’re wonderful furballs.

I’m glad Muffy & Salvador are there to comfort you on this yukky anniversary. The loss of a furbaby is a loss in the family, and is felt for a very long, long time. x
I hear ya. It’s only been a couple of months since we lost Kitty, but I think about her every day. It still hurts and I’m sure a year from now the pain will still be there. They’re our friends. They’re our family. It sucks when they die.
I hear ya too, I lost my Joe about this time last year. He was such a funny cat.
I’m sure Dixie’s in a place where she can act like a kitten again.
*hugs*
Thos kind of anniversarys do suck! take care
We lost our cat many years ago, but we still think of him often and keep his memory alive by telling funny stories about his antics! I’m glad to hear that things are going well with your pg by the way! Take care.
I just stumbled upon your blog through a series of others. We lost one of our dear little dogs a few months ago and it IS so hard. I am sending good healing vibes to your other sick kitty.
Amanda,
I still remember when you lost Dixie :(
She was a beautiful cat and I can tell she was very much loved.
I’m glad Muffy is doing ok. It sounds like your efforts are keeping her well.
I am so, so sorry you’re having to deal with this again. I just lost my sweet dog Annie to renal failure and it was horrendously awful. I will be praying for Muffy and for you.
Kitties are wonderful creatures, with a tenderness and purring personality distintinctly their own. I have had 3 kitties in my adult life, and they are no longer with me. 1 passed away, and the other 2 I had to place in other homes when my DH developed a severe allergy to cat dander. Now we have a dog who I am completely in love with - but in a different way than I used to relate to my kitties. I’m sorry you lost one, and are dealing with difficulties with another.
