A Much Anticipated Milestone November 7, 2006
If I can just make it to 28 weeks.
I can’t tell you how many times that thought has crossed my mind. Well, here I am. I hit the 28 week mark on Sunday.
I wish I could say that making it to this point would allow me to really relax, but there’s no way that’s going to happen. I do think that I’ve been able to exhale at least a little bit, however. I am now planning not only for what would happen if things went to hell but also planning for the opposite, more positive, possibility.
Case in point, I went and ordered furniture today. Yes, that kind of furniture. Even though Dan and I had already decided what we wanted to get, I was pretty darn nervous walking into the store to actually place an order for it. The whole experience was surreal, very out-of-body like.
In other news, I just got my glucose tolerance test results back. I flunked. Now I have the 3 hour version to look forward to on Monday. That should be a fun way to spend a morning.

Read up on the GTT and look at strategies and opinions. It is considered an abnormal load of sugar and there’s no surprise at failing it. For one thing, keep moving during those three hours. They wouldn’t let me walk around, for fear of me falling out from the sugar overload, but I did stand and swing my arms and legs trying to not just sit on that kind of sugar load.
I’m so glad you’ve made it this far, and I hope that you’re able to let go of the worry a bit over the next few weeks and (gasp!) maybe even enjoy it a little?
Oh yuck! I flunked too and passed the 3 hour. It was a very boring and hunger-filled 3 hours though. Yay on ordering furniture!
I’m so happy for you :)
ewwwww, I had to take the 3 hour. I hope you pass!
Congrats on the milestone =)
Ugh, I remember the fun of the 3-hour GTT. Bring something good to read. And an Ipod or something. No one told me to walk around (plus I’d just been put on bedrest) but I’d imagine that helps with the results. Plus it’ll help pass the time. And bring a snack to eat as soon as you’re done.
Woooo-hoooo on the furniture. I just can’t even imagine pulling the trigger on buying “that kind” of furniture. That’s a big, huge milestone for sure.
Rotten about the glucose test. I’m half convinced this is just a party trick some doctors dreamed up when they were good and drunk and complaining about pregnant women asking too many questions during appointments.
I found after 28 weeks I started breathing a little easier, for about two weeks. Then I started getting antsy again to get them out before anything could happen.
28 weeks is a wonderful milestone. I’m so happy for you and Dan, and hope everything goes well with your glucose test.
congratulations on the 28 weeks … excellent and well done you. (sorry about the glucose test, gross 3 hours worth)
Congrats on the 28 week mark and the furniture order–biggies both!
Good luck with the 3 hour test–I had to do the one hour, passed it by 3 points so they sent me for the three hour a few weeks back (earlier than usual in a pregnancy). Yeah, I passed it. But apparently, they’re not confident in my ability to pass it at the ‘usual’ time (27-28 weeks) in pg so I go back again next week to try again. And the other commenter is right–bring a book, an MP3 player, and a snack for when it’s over. It’s a long 3 hours and your belly may well be rumbling like mad like mine was. I was dying of thirst so maybe bring a bottle of water for when it’s done too.
Congrats on 28 weeks!
Good luck with the 3 hour test!
Yahoooo on 28 weeks and furniture! Booo on the glucose test, better luck with the long one, I hope…
Oh Amanda, I’m so happy for you! 28 weeks is phenomenal! It’s the goal I have in my own mind right now, too, though of course I pray I can make it quite a few weeks beyond that and avoid the whole NICU fiasco this time around. And WOOHOO on ordering *that* furniture, too. What a big step!
Crap on failing the one hour though. Hopefully the three hour will go much better.
Congrats on the 28 weeks, I am thrilled for you. Hmm, I knew I still needed to do something – guess I need to get going on the furniture thing? Oh man that’s big stuff. So glad things are going well, Amanda.
Big congrats for making it this far!! :)
I don’t know anything about those tests, but wishing you lots of luck.
Woohoo! 28 weeks! Now you get to look forward to getting more and more physically uncomfortable. (Hey, but at least your mind will get more and more comfortable, right?) Sorry about the GTT. That sucks. I didn’t fail mine, but my nutritionist still wanted me to go on a no-sugar diet. Not fun when all you want is sweets!
Congrats Amanda!!! You are almost there!
Fantastic! Amanda, you guys are going to make it!
congrats!!!!!!!!!
~hugs~
What a fabulous milestone!
Congratulations on 28 weeks, Amanda. I remember feeling amazed when I hit that milestone.
A year ago this week, I failed the 3-hour test. I am SO hoping you passed yesterday, but if not, know that you will get through that as well. It was no fun, but a year later it’s just a distant memory. Still, I hope you passed. :-)
Congrats on the milestone and the furniture!
