12 Weeks April 4, 2007
I can’t believe our little man is 12 weeks old already. I wish I could say that everything is going swimmingly, but Adam has been having a tough time lately. I took him to the doctor last Friday, and he suspected that reflux is the culprit. We started him on Zantac but saw no improvement, so we switched him to Prevacid yesterday. I’m hoping so much that the new meds help, because it’s killing me to watch him be so uncomfortable and unhappy.
Despite all of that, he’s doing well. He weighed 13 pounds, 8 ounces on Friday, over double his birth weight. He’s getting stronger physically and has even started to sleep longer stretches at night.
Even when we hit a bump or two in the road, I am enjoying our little guy to bits and am looking forward to the next 12 weeks and beyond.

Best of luck with the Prevacid. I’m only just now realizing how utterly miserable LL’s first few months were (for both of us) bc of reflux. Medication and yet another formula change worked wonders.
Crossing everything that the Prevacid works — there’s nothing worse than knowing your little one is hurting. But still, wow! What a big guy you have now! :-)
This is the second post I read today about infant reflux, I had no idea it was such a problem. I hope the Prevacid words and the next 12 weeks involves less disturbances. So glad to hear you are enjoying it all in spite of the bumps!
I hate to give assvice, but I’m going to do it anyway. Have you tried doing an elimination diet? P started throwing up everything. We thought it was reflux. We tried Zantac, we tried Prevacid, we tried several other meds. None of them helped and P hated them so much that he wouldn’t even open his mouth to nurse because he was afraid we’d stick a syringe of medicine in there. Out of desperation, I tried eliminating milk from my diet (on the advice of a friend) and within two days, he stopped throwing up. We discontinued the medicine and I kept all dairy from my diet while he was nursing (until 18 months), and he was fine. It turned out that he was allergic to casein. He drank rice milk until he was 2 and then grew out of the allergy, thankfully.
Anyway, I hope that the Prevacid works…if not, you might consider trying that! I can’t believe he’s already 12 weeks!
I have to second Erin. IF the new meds don’t work, give elimination a try. While it can take 2 weeks to get a perfect elimination of everything, you can see some improvement in as little as two days once the problem food is eliminated from your diet.
Just a suggestion. I found out that Adara cannot handle when I eat mushrooms…not at ALL. She cries, won’t nurse, pukes, etc. It’s awful. Took me forever to realize what it was because I was SURE it was dairy…My son had reflux and a casein issue. The reflux just about vanished after we stopped giving him dairy.
Anyway, just a suggestion. Hope you either find the problem food or that this med change works!
I hope the meds work for the little guy! bless his heart…
12 weeks - wow! So glad you have something for his pain. Hope all continues to go well.
Gosh he’s grown! I’m glad you are enjoying your baby Amanda. I’m keeping my fingers crossed for you on the meds.
Congratulations. I hope the Prevacid works.
Congratulations on your beautiful son! Your blog is inspiring to me, as I am going through infertility. 2 IVFs that were converted to IUIs due to poor response. I am doing the microdose protocol next month and hope that it makes the difference for me that it made for you. Congratulations I wish you and yours much happiness!
